Religulous

Known for his stance against religion, Bill Maher's views on the various world religions are explored as he travels to numerous religious destinations, such as Jerusalem, the Vatican, and Salt Lake City, interviewing believers from a variety of backgrounds and groups, including Jews for Jesus, Muslims, polygamists, Satanists, Hasidic scholars and even Rael of the Raelian Movement. In the trailer and documentary Maher also interviews research neuroscientist Andrew Newberg, MD, (author of Why We Believe What We Believe) who brain-scans people at the University of Pennsylvania as they pray, meditate and speak in tongues. Maher admitted to lying about himself and his film to obtain interviews: "We never, ever, used my name. We never told anybody it was me who was going to do the interviews. We even had a fake title for the film. We called it 'A Spiritual Journey.' It didn't work everywhere. We went to Salt Lake City, but no one would let us film there at all." The documentary was produced by Thousand Words and is being distributed by Lionsgate. Originally slated for intentional release date coinciding with the Christian Easter holiday 2008, post-production delays resulting from a screenwriters guild strike pushed the release date back to July 11, 2008. Release has now been pushed back to October 3, 2008.

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging - Trailer

Part 1

Part 2

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging

05:06

The film opens with Georgia (Groome) on her way to a fancy dress party. She and her friends have to decided to dress up as hors d'oeuvres in an attempt to be original, and so Georgia's costume is a green stuffed olive. She enters the party and realises that her friends have opted out and dressed as angels and devils, and everyone starts laughing at her. She runs home upset, and vows to stop behaving like a child and try to get a boyfriend. Soon after this it is the first day of school and we are introduced to Georgia's best friends: Jas (Eleanor Tomlinson), Ellen (Manjeeven Grewal) and Rosie (Georgia Henshaw). While at school, the girls spot two new brothers that have just moved to Eastbourne from London called Robbie (Aaron Johnson) and Tom (Sean Bourke). The girls spy on the boys, who are exploring Eastbourne with their friend Dave the Laugh (Tommy Bastow), in an attempt to find out more about them.

Jas and Georgia hatch a plan, and decide to hang out at Robbie and Tom's organic fruit and vegetable shop in order to get to know them. Jas decides that she likes Tom best, while Georgia falls for Robbie as he shares her fondness of cats. Robbie and Georgia share a moment until they are interrupted by Georgia's mum who walks into the store and ruins their plan, reminding Georgia that she hates organic food and that the fruit Georgia selected gives her wind. Georgia, already humiliated, then sees Robbie with her arch rival, Wet Lindsay and becomes even more determined to charm him. She then realises she has the "Angus Advantage" - she and Robbie share a love for cats, so in order for him to like her instead, she pretends that Angus has gone missing. She then appeals to Robbie to help her find him. However, while Jas is waiting in the park with Angus for Georgia to "find" him after she and Robbie have spent the day looking together, she is distracted by Tom playing football and accidentally lets Angus go. When Georgia and Robbie are looking for Angus they start bonding, but when they find Jas and Tom in the park with Angus, he has to leave to meet up with Lindsay.

The Ace Gang decide to find out what Lindsay has that Georgia doesn't by spying on her. They find out that she wears a thong and chicken fillets in her bra to make her boobs look bigger. Meanwhile, Georgia's dad has been offered a promotion but the job is in New Zealand and so he must go over there to decide whether he want to take the job. During his absence, Georgia's mum hires a handsome builder called Jem to re-do the living room, and begins to spend increasingly longer periods of time with him, making Georgia worried as to the state of her parents marriage. In an attempt to "grow up" for Robbie, Georgia then goes to have "snogging lessons" with Peter Dyer (Liam Hess) who remarks that she is his best student ever. He eventually becomes infatuated with her and at a party the following night, he tries to kiss her and as she pulls away they fall in a bush on top of each other, just as Robbie, Tom, Jas and Lindsay walk past. She is humiliated by Lindsay who laughs at her big knickers, and Robbie looks disappointed. Jas then invites Georgia to go swimming with her, Tom and Robbie to try and make amends with Robbie as Jas knows Lindsay would not be there. However Georgia declares to Jas that she has a huge problem, and so covers herself with a big towel and manages to jump in the pool when Robbie is not looking. Georgia and Robbie play flirtatiously, however while doing handstands in the water, Robbie realises Georgia has put too much fake tan on her legs and it has gone bright orange and streaked. Robbie and Georgia laugh it off together and Robbie kisses Georgia. He says that he has to go and sort some things out but he will call her later.

While Georgia anxiously awaits the call from Robbie, Peter Dyer comes to her door bearing flowers in an attempt to apologise for the incident in the bush. Georgia keeps making excuses as to why they cannot go out and eventually declares to him she is a lesbian. Gobsmacked and heartbroken, he tells Dave the Laugh, who asks Georgia if this is true. She tells him it isn't, prompting him to invite her to a gig for Robbie's band, the Stiff Dylans. Georgia is reluctant at first, however when Robbie does not call her she begins to consider. Georgia is still very upset about the situation as she thinks that Robbie no longer likes her. When Georgia's mum sees her crying, she decides to have a womanly chat with her and gives her a copy of "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus". Georgia explains to the Ace Gang that in the book, it says that in order to make a boy jealous you need to use the elastic band theory: boys are at first really close, then they are distant and need space and the minute they think they might have lost you they ping back, like an elastic band. Georgia decides to use this plan for the gig by bringing Dave the Laugh with her in an attempt to make Robbie jealous. It works, and Robbie tries to go to talk to Georgia but is stopped by Lindsay. However, at the end of the date, Dave leans in to kiss Georgia and she is forced to reject him. He leaves, clearly upset.

At school, Dave finds out that Georgia was only using him to make Robbie jealous and so stops talking to her. Robbie also finds out that she used Dave the Laugh and because they are good friends, also stops talking to Georgia. When she finds out it was Jas that leaked this information, they have an argument, and they vow never to speak to each other again. Feeling like there is no point in staying in England, Georgia decides that she would like to move to New Zealand because she doubts she will ever be Robbie's girlfriend and had fallen out with Jas. However, Georgia goes for a walk along the beach she sees Robbie. She apologises again and he forgives her and says that he still likes her. Now that she has patched things up with Robbie she no longer wants to move to New Zealand. She goes to her dad's work and asks to see his boss. As he is not there, Georgia pours her heart out to the secretary telling her how she is growing increasingly worried that her mum is having an affair with Jem and that she can't bear for her parents to be apart.

The film ends with Georgia's fifteenth birthday. She wakes up and her mum and her younger sister give her a card that is full of money. Georgia's mum tells Georgia to buy something nice for the evening because they are going to a club. When she gets to the club, which from the outside seems empty, she is greeted by all her friends and her mum tells her that her and Jas organised it together and so Jas and Georgia are reunited. It is revealed that Jem is infact, gay. Also, Georgia's dad returns from New Zealand with the news that he has been offered an even better job in Eastbourne so there is no need to leave the country. It is then announced the Stiff Dylans are playing, and they perform the song "Ultraviolet" which Robbie had written about Georgia. The performance, however, is interrupted by Lindsay who had come from her own party (which no one had turned up to) and tells Robbie that he should take her back or lose her forever. He shoots her down and tells her that Georgia is the one he wants, after which the Ace Gang expose her fake breasts, humiliating her in front of everybody. Robbie and Georgia share a romantic kiss on-stage. The film finishes the next day as Robbie is waiting for Georgia outside her house and them walking along the pier, into the sunset together.

Next Halloween, be aware of Saw Trap!

The plot details have not yet been revealed, although in an interview with IGN, Patrick Melton revealed that Saw V will explain what happened to Corbett, the daughter of Lynn Denlon and Jeff Reinhart, following the conclusion of Saw III that left her in danger. An interview with Tobin Bell revealed that the origins of Billy the puppet and his red tricycle would be further explained after having the story's roots planted in Saw IV.Also, in an interview on June 13, 2007, Tobin Bell teased that he would not be surprised if the character of Cecil made a reappearance, and that the pieces of flesh taken from the victims in the form of a jigsaw puzzle might be explained.

About the Trap

According to director David Hackl, one trap can potentially kill the actor meant to be placed in it, and so paramedics will be standing by while filming; Hackl joked that the trap would truly test the actor, just like Jigsaw tests his victims.

In the Saw IV DVD commentary, Darren Lynn Bousman stated that the glass box trap, which was originally planned to be used in Saw IV, will be further explored in Saw V. The glass trap was only shown, not used, in the final cut of Saw IV.

In an interview discussing a trap in Saw V, David Hackl revealed that Scott Patterson's character, Agent Strahm, would be placed in a trap that Hackl called 'the most dangerous' and 'elegant in its simplicity'. There will be a total of seven traps in this film.

In an interview with IGN, Julie Benz said that the character of Brit is a real-estate developer and that the character is corporate like a thorough-bred race-horse. She also revealed that this is the first film about which she ever had a nightmare.

Columbia revs up another 'XXX'

22:03

Vin Diesel, Rob Cohen return to franchise

Columbia Pictures hasn’t tired of "XXX," particularly if it’s a Diesel-powered vehicle.

The studio is in discussions with producer Joe Roth for a new version of "XXX," one that would bring back Vin Diesel as star and Rob Cohen as director.

The duo teamed on the 2002 original, which starred Diesel as Xander Cage, an extreme sports enthusiast who gets drafted by the government for a dangerous mission.

Roth controls the property because the original film was made by his Revolution Studios, which was also behind "XXX: State of the Union," a sequel that starred Ice Cube and was directed by Lee Tamahori.

The third incarnation has a title, "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," but no script.

Diesel has agreed to return and so has Cohen, but talent deals won’t be worked out until the studio pact is made.

This would be the first pic for Roth at Col since Revolution folded.

Diesel had bowed out of an encore, but it is also believed that his salary quote had gotten too expensive for a modestly successful picture.

Diesel also bowed out of a starring role in the first sequel to "The Fast and the Furious" — "2 Fast 2 Furious" — opting for a cameo in that pic. He skipped the third pic, "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," but will reteam with original co-star Paul Walker in the franchise’s fourth go-round, "Fast & Furious," which Universal will release June 12.

The move to reinstate Diesel in his Gen X James Bond vehicle underscores the appetite of studios for potential tentpole franchises. Though Diesel didn’t score in the recently released "Babylon A.D.," sources said other studios are waiting in the wings to make the sequel if Col doesn’t.

Cohen directed the summer sequel "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor."

Diesel’s repped by Endeavor and the Firm, Cohen by WMA.

'Burn After Reading' is No.1 at the box office

21:51

Sunday September 14 2:39 PM ET

Joel and Ethan Coen scored their biggest opener to date by raking in $19.4 million in ticket sales for "Burn After Reading" and helping end a seven-week attendance slide at theaters, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The madcap comedy starring Brad Pitt, George Clooney and John Malkovich raked in $7 million more than the writing-directing duo's last box-office hit, the 2004 comedy "The Ladykillers" according to box office tracker Media by Numbers.

"Burn After Reading's" success comes just a year after the brothers gained widespread acclaim for the drama "No Country for Old Men," which won four Academy Awards and grossed $73.3 million.

Their Oscar credentials and the star-studded cast combined to make "Burn After Reading" a hit, said Jack Foley, president of distribution for Focus Features.

"The Coens have broken into more commercial territory with this film," Foley said. "They've become more of a household name."

The weekend's three other new releases also turned in solid performances.

Writer-director Tyler Perry's "The Family That Preys," starring Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard in a drama about two families from different social classes, debuted at No. 2 with $18 million. Five out of six of Perry's films have opened at No. 1 or No. 2 on their opening weekends, said Steve Rothenberg, president of domestic distribution for Lionsgate.

Rothenberg said he expected "The Family that Preys" to continue to play well over upcoming weekends as Perry's movies typically do.

"It should have good legs," he said.

Overture Film's "Righteous Kill" opened at No. 3 with $16.5 million, proving that A-list stars Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino still draw fans. The movie played to a wide range of ages and both genders, said Kyle Davies, Overture's executive vice president of theatrical distribution.

"The primary appeal is to see these two legends together," he said.

Picturehouse's "The Women" starring Meg Ryan and Annette Bening in a remake of George Cukor's 1939 comedy-drama was No. 4 with $10.1 million.

The weekend's total box-office draw should surpass $100 million, breaking a seven-week slide in ticket revenue, said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media by Numbers. Last weekend was the slowest moviegoing weekend in five years, with just $67.6 million.

He attributed the uptick to the variety in genres that studios offered this weekend.

"Audiences want a lot of choice," he said. "Each of these movies had a particular demographic. This was the cinematic equivalent of a magazine rack."

The next seven films in the top dozen were holdovers, grossing $4.3 million or less.

The Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" continued to rack up its gross with another $4 million, for total box office revenue of $517.7 million to date.

Last weekend's top-ranked "Bangkok Dangerous" starring Nicolas Cage dropped to eighth place with $2.4 million.

The top 12 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, as estimated by Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

  1. "Burn After Reading," $19.4 million.
  2. "Tyler Perry's The Family that Preys," $18.0 million.
  3. "Righteous Kill," $16.5 million.
  4. "The Women," $10.1 million.
  5. "The House Bunny," $4.3 million.
  6. "Tropic Thunder," $4.2 million.
  7. "The Dark Knight," $4.0 million.
  8. "Bangkok Dangerous," $2.4 million.
  9. "Traitor," $2.1 million.
  10. "Death Race," $2.0 million.
  11. "Babylon A.D.," $1.7 million.
  12. "Mamma Mia!," $1.7 million.
